Apple eau de vie Ērmanītis
There's an old apple garden in Kurzeme where sweet apples are only picked when they are hit by the first frost.
The juice squeezed from these apples is fermented, distilled and then put in Italian chestnut tree barrels, where for 3 years patiently awaits to be bottled now as Latvian made apple eau de vie "Ērmanītis".
This drink, like its French cousin Calvados in the novels of Erich Maria Remarque, is strong but has a tender and kind soul. It enwraps your heart with dreamy serenity/peacefulness/calmness and your body with warmth.Taste
The drink has a light aroma of apple and vanilla with a variety of spicy shades. Rich, delicate and creamy taste with fruit notes and oak breath. Beautiful, long and delightful aftertaste is complemented by light peppery accents. Great for enjoying with your friends after dinner or alone in the country.
Calvados, which is a close relative of eau de vie, is usually served with a dessert or at the end of the meal. Good pair with chocolate, nuts. Of course, you can also enjoy it on its own, in the chilly autumn evenings or in the warm summer nights.Producer

About the producer
Legally speaking, as indicated on the label, the producer is Avokado Ltd., but behind every good drink there is a craftsman - a man who has took care, experimented and created. Our craftsman is Mārcis Strautiņš. He has been brewing for more than 20 years, inheriting this craft from his grandmother.
Only the carefully selected apples that have grown in the vast apple orchard of "Kalnmegņu" house in Gudenieki parish make the juice that is then fermented in the wine. The subsequent process of distillation requires a lot of care, precision and time. After having been in the chestnut tree barrels for at least three years, eau de vie acquires new flavour nuances, tones and character.
Marcis' 'brewing philosophy is deliberation, quality and love that give this drink a calm character in a language that the body understands. Cheers!Where to buy?
